30 Mar
Summary
- Second ransom note may be an apology, suggesting Nancy Guthrie is dead.
- The note allegedly apologizes for not realizing the severity of her heart condition.
- Nancy Guthrie, 84, has been missing from Tucson, Arizona since January 31.

The search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie has entered its eighth week, with new speculation suggesting a second ransom note may actually be an apology, indicating she has died. This theory was discussed on Megyn Kelly's SiriusXM program by former FBI agent James Hamilton and investigator Maureen O'Connell.
A user on X, who has reportedly been accurate in their reporting, claimed that two sources confirmed the note contained an apology for not realizing the severity of Guthrie's heart condition, stating she had 'gone to be with God.' This message reportedly came from the same individuals who previously demanded Bitcoin for her return.
Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, was believed to have been abducted from her Tucson, Arizona home on January 31. Investigators had released footage of a suspect and noted Guthrie's existing heart condition, pacemaker, and need for daily medication.
Savannah Guthrie had expressed belief in the authenticity of the ransom notes and stated she would pay, but the demanded Bitcoin has not been received. Kelly suggested Savannah's plea for her mother's return sounded like a 'celebration of life,' aligning with the apology note theory that Guthrie's body was with the senders.
However, Hamilton expressed skepticism about the notes' authenticity, describing such actions as typical of scam artists preying on grief and vulnerability to extort money.
