Nagpur Blitz: Cops Target Public Smoking and Illegal Liquor

Nagpur City Police executed a significant enforcement operation in Bajaj Nagar between December 16 and December 28. The multi-faceted drive aimed to curb public smoking, illegal liquor sales, and traffic offenses, focusing on congested areas and public spaces. A substantial number of cases, 183 in total, were registered under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) for violations related to smoking in public.
The crackdown also targeted the illicit liquor trade, resulting in three cases each under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act for unlawful sale and transportation of alcohol. Authorities seized foreign liquor valued at ₹1.16 lakh, alongside a vehicle worth ₹18 lakh, bringing the total seized property value to ₹19.16 lakh. Additionally, three Saoji restaurants are being scrutinized for allegedly permitting unlicensed alcohol consumption on their premises.
