Summary
- Petty criminal transformed into MD kingpin fueling underworld.
- Drug trade injects crores into Nagpur's criminal economy.
- MD racket busted with 65gm drugs valued at 9 lakh.

A significant mephedrone (MD) drug bust in Nagpur early Monday has once again highlighted the narco mafia's profound influence within the city's underworld. The drug trade is pumping crores of rupees into criminal activities, transforming small-time offenders into millionaires.
Piyush Malwande, a 30-year-old arrested on Monday, exemplifies this shift. Previously associated with a local gang and recently released from jail for a murder case, he evolved from an addict to a gun runner and then a major MD kingpin. His rapid ascent, fueled by drug money, allowed him to constantly change his methods and associates.
The anti-narcotics team conducted raids near Vastu Residency, Narhari Nagar, and Beltarodi, seizing 65 grams of MD, four mobile phones, and two mopeds, collectively valued at approximately 9 lakh. Rahul Gorade, Arya Shyam Kumar Gorele, and Manish Dhurve were among those arrested during the operation.
This operation, which intercepted contraband believed to be routed from Mumbai or the Rajasthan-Madhya Pradesh border, indicates strong connections to East Nagpur's criminal elements. Sumeet Chintalwar, a known player in the MD trade and a close associate of Malwande, is currently on the run.
