Raymond Boodarian, 23, the man charged in the July 10, 2025, murders of music supervisor Robin Kaye and musician Thomas Deluca, has been deemed unfit to stand trial. A judge ruled on September 21, 2026, that Boodarian remains unfit, over eight months after his commitment to Patton State Hospital. He is currently under an involuntary medication order, and his maximum commitment date is set for December 19, 2027.
Prosecutors allege Boodarian was burglarizing the couple's Encino home when they returned from shopping and encountered him. The couple, both 70, were reportedly shot multiple times with a firearm found in the house. Boodarian then fled the scene. Surveillance footage reportedly shows a man matching Boodarian's description entering the property and later leaving with a handgun. The bodies were discovered four days after the incident during a welfare check.
Boodarian's public defender previously stated he has severe mental health issues. If eventually found competent and convicted, he could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole. His next progress hearing is scheduled for March 22, 2027.
