Safi Dawood, a 23-year-old Afghan national, has been declared mentally fit to stand trial for murder and attempted murder in relation to a triple stabbing incident in Uxbridge, west London. The court heard this week that psychiatric evaluations concluded Dawood is fit to proceed with legal proceedings.
The alleged attacks occurred in October of last year, just days before Dawood was reportedly to leave the annex he occupied at his landlord's property. He is accused of murdering council worker Wayne Broadhurst, who was reportedly stabbed approximately 14 times while walking his dog.
Dawood also faces charges for the severe injuries inflicted upon his landlord, Shahzad Farrukh, a business consultant, and for attempting to murder a 14-year-old boy who has since been discharged from hospital. The accused, who arrived in the UK in a lorry five years prior and was granted asylum in 2022, appeared via video link from Broadmoor Hospital.
Legal arguments continue regarding a potential defense of diminished responsibility for manslaughter, with psychiatric experts reportedly divided on the matter. Dawood spoke only to confirm his name via a Pashto translator during the hearing. His pleas are expected at a future hearing on April 27, with a trial provisionally listed for later this summer.
