Tony Sibert, 29, of Lima, has been apprehended after a four-year period of evading law enforcement. He is charged with the murder of DeJuan Adams, who was fatally shot outside Sheryl's bar on July 23, 2022. Sibert's arrest occurred earlier this month when police responded to a domestic dispute call and found him barricaded in a Lima home.
A standoff ensued, involving crisis negotiation and SWAT teams, before Sibert was taken into custody. According to Detective Sgt. Steve Stechschulte, Sibert confessed to firing the shots, indicating he felt threatened by Adams and other individuals present. The defense attorney, Kenneth Rexford, has signaled that self-defense will be a key argument in the upcoming trial.
Prosecutor Colleen Limerick stated that Adams approached Sibert as he was leaving the bar. Adams allegedly grabbed Sibert by the neck, and another person threw a drink, prompting Sibert to produce a handgun and fire. Adams was pronounced dead at the scene. Sibert has been formally bound over to Allen County Common Pleas Court for grand jury consideration, with his bond set at $2 million.
