The Murdaugh family's South Carolina estate, the site of a tragic double murder in 2021, has been the center of a captivating saga. In June 2021, the bodies of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh were found on the family's 1,770-acre property, known as "Moselle," leading to an investigation that ultimately resulted in Alex Murdaugh's conviction for their murders in March 2023.
Following the shocking events, the Murdaugh estate was sold in March 2023 for $3.9 million. However, the property's story did not end there. In January 2024, the new owners, James Ayer and Jeffrey Godley, listed the house and some of the surrounding land for sale. A few months later, in February 2024, the house and remaining land were purchased at auction by Alex Blair, who planned to use it as a second home for his family.
Blair then invested nearly $1 million into renovating the property, including demolishing the kennels and airplane hangar where the murders took place. The transformed home was re-listed for sale in December 2024 for $2.75 million. However, as of late 2025, the property remains on the market, now with only around 48 acres, down from the original 1,770-acre estate.
The Murdaugh estate's turbulent journey, from the site of a tragic crime to a renovated and resold property, continues to captivate those following the Murdaugh saga. The home's haunting past and ongoing transformation have made it a focal point of intrigue in this true crime drama.
