Mumbai Woman Loses Rs 88,000 to Fake Astrologer

A 72-year-old retired BMC clerk from south Mumbai fell victim to an online scam, losing Rs 88,000 to a man posing as an astrologer. The woman encountered advertisements for astrology and relationship healing services on Instagram and Facebook in early November 2025. She contacted a listed mobile number and spoke with an individual claiming to be Ravi Bhargava from Ujjain.

Initially, the accused charged Rs 199 for astrological advice, which the complainant paid via Google Pay. Subsequently, he demanded further sums for alleged pujas and rituals intended to help with her son's personal life. Between November 6 and November 8, 2025, she transferred a total of Rs 87,176 through various payments to a Google Pay-linked number. When she requested proof and a refund, the accused became evasive, leading her to report the fraud to the police.
