28 Jan
Summary
- Four police officers arrested for stealing cash and gold.
- Accused allegedly extorted money from another woman.
- An internal inquiry uncovered the alleged theft and extortion.

An assistant police inspector and three constables, formerly part of the anti-terrorism cell at RCF police station, have been arrested. These officers are accused of stealing cash and gold jewelry from the residence of a woman in Navi Mumbai. The incident occurred last month during an operation aimed at locating illegal Bangladeshi nationals.
In a separate but related allegation, the same group of officers is accused of extorting Rs 5 lakh from another woman suspected to be of Bangladeshi origin in Kalyan. The theft during the official raid came to light after an activist filed a police complaint, initiating an internal inquiry. Investigations revealed a lack of official records for seized items, suggesting misappropriation of property. The officers have been suspended and an FIR was registered following these findings.
