Summary
- Ten fake doctors were booked for practicing without degrees.
- Clinics allegedly treated venereal diseases with expired medicines.
- Practitioners operated in Bhandup, Mankhurd, Kurla, and other areas.
The Mumbai police's crime branch has taken action against ten fake doctors suspected of practising medicine without valid degrees or registration with the Maharashtra Medical Council. These individuals were allegedly operating clinics in various Mumbai localities, including Bhandup, Mankhurd, Kurla, Jogeshwari, Borivali, and Dahisar.
Investigations revealed that these clinics primarily treated patients for venereal or sexually transmitted diseases, often using expired Unani and Ayurvedic medicines. The bogus practitioners reportedly charged exorbitant fees for their services. The crime branch, in coordination with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation health officers, conducted raids on several clinics, many located in crowded slum areas.
Cases have been registered against the accused under the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, 1961, for practising without registration and using unauthorized medical titles. The police seized expired medicines and are continuing their drive against unlicensed medical practitioners.
