Navy Sailor's Family Found Dead in Mumbai Quarters

A shocking discovery was made on Saturday night in Mumbai's Cuffe Parade area, where a 30-year-old Indian Navy sailor, Puranmal Shambulal Mehra, along with his wife Oma (28) and their two children, a three-year-old son and a two-month-old daughter, were found deceased in their official residence.

The preliminary findings point towards a suspected suicide by the sailor, with poisoning being the suspected cause for the deaths of his wife and children. However, officials have emphasized that definitive conclusions await detailed forensic and post-mortem reports. The family had relocated from Rajasthan, and the sailor's brother, also in the Navy, arrived to claim the bodies.

Investigators were alerted by a neighbor who noticed the partially open door of the family's quarters. The sailor was found in the living room, while his wife and children were in a bedroom. No suicide note was found, and initial forensic checks did not reveal any obvious suspicious substances at the scene.

Sources indicate that the couple, married for four to five years, had been experiencing marital discord. A week prior, the wife's father had visited Mumbai, attempting to take his daughter home, but the sailor reportedly refused, stating the children could not leave with her. Police are currently gathering statements from family, neighbors, and witnesses to reconstruct the events leading to this devastating outcome.

Post-mortem examinations confirmed the sailor died from asphyxia due to hanging. The cause of death for the wife and children remains pending the results of forensic and chemical analyses. Cuffe Parade police have registered an accidental death report and are continuing their investigation, with the Navy pledging full cooperation.
