Mumbai Rave Canceled Amidst Safety Fears
20 Apr
Summary
- Underground house and techno music event canceled hours before.
- Police cited law and order concerns over crowd management.
- Special anti-drug, anti-harassment, anti-theft squads to monitor venues.

An anticipated underground house and techno music event, billed as the debut of Ibiza rave Circoloco in India, was canceled on Sunday, mere hours before its scheduled commencement. The BKC police denied permission, citing concerns related to law and order and crowd management as the reasons for the abrupt cancellation. This decision arrives in the wake of a recent tragedy where two MBA students reportedly died from suspected ecstasy consumption at a live event.
The canceled Circoloco event was expected to attract more than 4,000 ticket holders. In response to recent incidents, Mumbai police are establishing specialized squads in the western suburbs to enhance safety at live performances. These units will include anti-drug, anti-harassment, and anti-theft teams tasked with monitoring venues from Bandra to Oshiwara, and Andheri to Powai.
These newly formed squads will oversee concerts featuring both Indian and international artists. The size of each squad will be determined by the expected crowd size, with deployment costs to be borne by event organizers. Police personnel will be instructed to maintain a professional demeanor while remaining vigilant against suspicious activities. Fees for these deployments are to be collected in advance from organizers.
