The case came to light when a 20-year-old unmarried woman delivered the baby boy at a hospital in Govandi on November 13th, 2025. The police received information that some individuals were planning to sell the newborn at the Royal Hospital in Govandi.
When the police arrived at the hospital, they found the newborn baby in a tray and a woman claiming to be a nurse named Anita Popat Sawant. During the investigation, the police also summoned Dr. Qayamuddin Khan, who admitted that they had planned to sell the baby to a woman named Darshana for ₹5 lakh.
The police have taken the newborn into custody and are investigating whether the doctor who performed the delivery was authorized to do so. They are also examining the hospital's documents to check if any other children have been illegally sold by the accused in the past.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the need for stricter regulations and oversight in the healthcare system to prevent such unethical and illegal practices.
