Mumbai Court Rejects Bail for Exam Paper Leaker
20 May
Summary
- Temporary peon accused of leaking B Com Semester VI papers.
- CCTV footage shows peon photographing papers with his mobile.
- Court emphasized custodial interrogation for full investigation.

A sessions court in Mumbai has rejected the anticipatory bail application of Sudesh Indap, a temporary peon at Mumbai University's Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE). Indap is accused of leaking B Com Semester VI question papers in April.
The court found the offence to be very serious, noting that such leaks severely damage the education and merits of students. Prosecution relied on CCTV footage showing Indap using his mobile phone to photograph the question papers between April 13 and April 15 while they were being printed.
An internal investigation committee found that Indap had forwarded the papers to others for financial gain. The court stated that custodial interrogation is necessary to fully investigate the offence, identify all involved individuals, and determine how many students benefited from the leak and their connection to the accused.
An FIR was filed at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices at University, Board and other Specified Examination Act. Indap claimed false implication and pointed to a delay in FIR filing, while police argued for the potential involvement of other accused.
