Mumbai Police have dismissed constable Shyam Sonawane from service following charges of dereliction of duty. Sonawane was assigned as the bodyguard to former NCP leader Baba Siddique. Siddique, aged 66, was tragically shot and killed by three assailants on the night of October 12, 2024. The incident occurred outside the office of Siddique's son, Zeeshan, in the Bandra area. Sonawane, who belonged to the Protection and Security branch of the Mumbai Police, faced a departmental inquiry. Officials stated that the inquiry found Sonawane to be negligent and irresponsible in performing his duties. Subsequently, he was issued a show-cause notice and then a termination letter, which he formally accepted on May 2. His dismissal is a direct consequence of the findings regarding his conduct during his duty.
