Carpenter murders daughter over remarriage objection
8 Oct
Summary
- Carpenter poisoned daughter's chicken biryani to kill her.
- Victim's father arrested after post-mortem revealed strangulation.
- Second daughter escaped death by staying with uncle.
A tragic incident unfolded in Wadala East, Mumbai, where a carpenter, Sharif Raza Hussain Khan, is accused of murdering his 20-year-old daughter, Rifat. The motive appears to be Rifat's strong opposition to her father's remarriage, a move also reportedly disliked by her 16-year-old sister, Nuzhat. Khan allegedly poisoned Rifat's chicken biryani on October 2nd.
Following the poisoning, Khan is believed to have strangled Rifat when she became unconscious. He reportedly attempted to stage the death as a result of food poisoning. However, medical professionals at KEM Hospital noted strangulation marks on her neck during the post-mortem examination. These findings, along with circumstantial evidence, led to Khan's arrest on Wednesday. His younger daughter, Nuzhat, was spared as she had stayed with her uncle on the night of the incident.
