A Mumbai court has granted bail to a businessman arrested in connection with a fatal car accident that occurred on February 5 in Ghatkopar. The accident involved an SUV allegedly driven by his minor son, resulting in the death of a scooter rider and severe injuries to his wife. The businessman was released on a Rs 50,000 bond.
The court's decision was based on the observation that the father likely had no knowledge of his son taking the vehicle for a drive. This was supported by the statement of a building watchman. The businessman was arrested on February 10 and charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act.
During the proceedings, the defense argued the father's lack of awareness, while the prosecution contended he allowed his son to drive despite knowing he lacked a license. The victim's family also alleged the father was aware of the minor's reckless driving stunts and had attempted to settle the case. The court, however, prioritized the watchman's account of the events.
