Bandra Road Width Fraud Uncovered by BMC
15 Dec
Summary
- BMC deemed H-West ward engineer's explanation unsatisfactory.
- False road widths were allegedly used to benefit a developer.
- Activist demands developer's IOD be cancelled and NOC reviewed.

Mumbai's Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has found an H-West ward engineer's explanation concerning alleged road width misrepresentation to be unsatisfactory. The engineer had previously provided certification for a Gaothan road at 6 meters and a Boran road at 9 meters. However, actual site measurements revealed these roads are only 4.4 meters and 7.4 meters wide, respectively.
This discrepancy has raised concerns that the false certification may have been intended to benefit a developer undertaking a project within the H-West ward. Officials stated that the provided explanation lacked justification and did not adequately address the issues raised in the show-cause notice, despite ample opportunity. The engineer had initially cited encroachments and claimed to have notified relevant departments.
Activist Santosh Daundkar, who brought the matter to light, is urging for a thorough investigation. He has demanded the cancellation of the developer's Intimation of Disapproval and has requested the fire brigade to re-evaluate the No Objection Certificate issued for the project, highlighting that road width is critical for FSI, building height, and fire safety access.
