A woman, identified as Scarlett Faulkner, is in a critical condition following a violent attack on the R494 at Birdhill, County Tipperary. Emergency services attended to her at the scene before she was airlifted to University Hospital Limerick.
Her condition necessitated a transfer on Sunday to the head trauma unit at Cork University Hospital, where she remains critically ill. Ms. Faulkner is understood to be a member of a Traveller family from Limerick city. Gardaí are investigating several theories regarding the assault, including a possible vehicle ramming incident.
Authorities are appealing for information and requesting any road users who were on the R494 between Birdhill and the M7 motorway between 5pm and 6pm on Saturday, March 21st, 2026, to come forward, especially if they possess relevant camera footage.
