Fake brides scam: 42 families lose over Rs 10 lakh

A cunning marriage scam has defrauded 42 families from various districts of Madhya Pradesh in Dewas. The accused allegedly preyed on families finding it difficult to arrange suitable marriages for their sons. They presented fabricated photos, purportedly of young women from an Indore orphanage, to convince victims.
Families were charged between Rs 12,000 and Rs 25,000 each, with the total fraud estimated to exceed Rs 10 lakh. The planned mass wedding for May 25th in Dewas was exposed as a con when the grooms and their families arrived on May 24th to find no arrangements and no brides.
Organizers Mukesh Bairagi and his wife Sunita were arrested after initially assuring families the brides were en route from Indore. Investigations suggest Mukesh's brother, Dinesh Bairagi, and father-in-law, Narsingh Das Bairagi, were also involved. Police have registered a case and are actively searching for the absconding individuals.
