Motivational Speaker's Body Recovered from Matheran Cliff in Mumbai

On October 19, 2025, the body of a 58-year-old motivational speaker from Bengaluru, Professor Shanmuga S Balasubramanian, was recovered from a 1,200-foot deep valley at the King George view point cliff in Matheran, Mumbai.
Professor Balasubramanian had arrived in Matheran to deliver a lecture for the management team of a company. However, he was last seen on CCTV camera leaving his hotel on the morning of October 15. The hotel owner alerted the police after Balasubramanian failed to show up for the event and remained incommunicado.
Matheran police launched a social media campaign to seek information about the missing professor. His family and a few company personnel had reached the hill station to assist in the search. Authorities are still investigating whether Balasubramanian's death was an accidental skid during his morning trek or a case of suicide. The company stated that Balasubramanian had not informed them about his Matheran visit in advance.
