- Trial began Monday for alleged neglect during a cosmetic procedure.

Maya Hernandez, 20, is facing trial for murder and child cruelty in connection with the death of her 1-year-old son, Amillio Gutierrez. Authorities allege that on June 29, Hernandez left Amillio and his 2-year-old brother strapped in their car seats in Bakersfield, California, for two hours while she attended a med spa appointment for a lip filler injection.
During this time, the vehicle's air conditioner, initially set to 60 degrees, reportedly shut off automatically after an hour. When Hernandez returned, the infant was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the hospital, having reached a body temperature of 107 degrees. His older brother survived the ordeal.
The trial commenced on Monday, December 8, with prosecutors arguing that Hernandez intentionally left the children unattended despite knowing they could not be brought inside the spa. The defense has contested the second-degree murder charge, while a GoFundMe has been established by the boy's aunt to cover funeral expenses.
