A domestic dispute nearly ended in tragedy on the night of March 29, when a woman in her mid-30s attempted to hang herself and her three-year-old son. The incident occurred near Bhendi Bazar in south Mumbai. Neighbors noticed the distress and made a timely call to the police control room, enabling a swift response.
Police officers from the J J Marg police station arrived promptly at the residence. Upon entering the flat, they found the woman and her younger son on a bed, with dupattas tied from the ceiling fan around their necks. The quick actions of the police saved both lives. The woman explained that severe stress from domestic disputes, stemming from her husband's alleged extra-marital affair, drove her to this extreme measure.
Police sub-inspector Anjali Babar provided counseling to the couple. The woman was later taken home by her in-laws. Inspector Rahul Pawar, woman sub-inspector Usha Chavan, and other police personnel were involved in the response and aftermath.
