In Bijnor, a woman named Aadesh Devi, aged 32, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of her four-year-old son. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 60,000 on her. This tragic event occurred on June 12, 2024, in Jalalpur Hasna village.
The child's father returned from his fields to find his son critically injured, allegedly attacked with a spade by his wife. The mother then reportedly attempted to destroy evidence by placing the boy's body on burning wood. The father managed to rescue his son and take him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
During questioning, the accused stated she believed a goddess had appeared in a dream and requested the child as a sacrifice. She claimed she was fulfilling this divine demand. The post-mortem examination revealed multiple injuries on the child's body.
Following the investigation and court proceedings, Devi was found guilty of murder and destruction of evidence. The conviction was highlighted as a success of Uttar Pradesh's Operation Conviction campaign.
