A harrowing incident of child cruelty has resulted in the arrest of a woman and her partner in Dharmapuri. Ezhilarasi, 23, and Ayyappan, 28, were taken into custody on Saturday, February 12, 2026, for allegedly subjecting Ezhilarasi's three-year-old daughter to severe torture, including burning her with cigarettes. The child was admitted to Dharmapuri Government Medical College and Hospital on February 11, 2026, with critical injuries. Hospital staff alerted the authorities after noticing signs of abuse.
Initial investigations revealed that Ezhilarasi had been living with Ayyappan for a few months after separating from her husband. Police reports suggest Ayyappan considered the child an obstacle to their relationship. When Ezhilarasi refused to send her daughter away, Ayyappan allegedly inflicted cigarette burns across the child's body, with Ezhilarasi's knowledge. Both accused have been remanded in custody, and the child remains in intensive care.
