A harrowing incident unfolded in Wagholi on Tuesday morning, where a 29-year-old woman allegedly murdered her 11-year-old son and attempted to kill her 13-year-old daughter. The violence erupted following a heated argument with her husband, a casual worker, about his unemployment and drinking habits.
After the husband left their rented accommodation in search of work, the woman reportedly took a kitchen knife and attacked her children. The elder daughter narrowly escaped, running out of the house screaming for help, which alerted society residents. Police were called to the scene, and the woman was found locked in the bathroom.
Both children were rushed to the hospital, where the son, Sairaj, was declared dead due to excessive bleeding. The injured daughter, Dhanashree, is receiving treatment. The family, originally from Nanded district, had relocated to Pune about a decade ago and had frequently moved homes due to the father's struggles with alcoholism.
