A mother has been handed a life sentence for the murder of her infant daughter, who died after sustaining severe head injuries. Sarah Ngaba, 32, was convicted in May of murdering her seven-week-old child, Eliza, in 2019. The court heard Ngaba admitted to causing "dreadful, life-shortening and life-limiting" injuries but maintained she did not intend to kill her daughter.
Eliza, who was just seven weeks old when she was injured, tragically passed away in 2022. Ngaba, formerly of Telford, Shropshire, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday for sentencing. The judge ordered that she serve a minimum of 12 years and 154 days before being eligible for parole, accounting for time already served.
