- Rawat shot ex-boyfriend twice after an argument.

J'ana Rawat, 30, was found guilty of malice murder and several other charges by a DeKalb County jury on March 3, for the 2022 killing of her ex-boyfriend. The murder occurred inside a Clarkston apartment, with two of Rawat's children present in the room at the time of the incident.
Rawat's convictions include malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, cruelty to children in the third degree, and possession of a firearm during a felony. The charges are related to the May 20, 2022, death of 28-year-old Tyler James Reed. Clarkston police responded to a shooting call and found Reed deceased in the kitchen.
During the trial, Rawat claimed self-defense, but prosecutors argued against this, stating no evidence showed Reed was a threat. Rawat admitted to shooting Reed twice after an argument. A sentencing hearing is scheduled in 45 days.
