3-Year-Old Killed: Mother Disputes Police Account
5 Feb
Summary
- Mother claims officers, not the father, shot her 3-year-old son.
- Police state father held child hostage before officers fired.
- A fundraiser has been created for the boy's funeral expenses.

Raneka Pate has come forward with a deeply distressing account of her 3-year-old son's final moments. She claims she witnessed officers with the Metropolitan Police Department fatally shoot her son, Kentre Baker, while he was in his father's arms. Police have stated that Quinton Baker, the father, held the child hostage, pointed a gun at him, and fired before officers returned fire, killing Baker.
Pate vehemently disputes this narrative, asserting that Baker was unarmed when he emerged from the apartment with their son. She stated that officers opened fire, unleashing a "plethora of bullets," and that her child was killed by police gunfire, not by his father. Baker was pronounced dead at the scene, and Kentre died later at a hospital, though his mother believes he succumbed to his injuries in the parking lot.
The distraught mother expressed frustration with the police department's early release of their version of events. She has initiated an online fundraiser to cover funeral expenses for Kentre, whom she described as "sunshine in human form" and a child with a profound love for marine life.
