Summary
- Mother faces felony charges for teen son's e-motorcycle crash.
- 81-year-old victim critically injured, hospitalized.
- Mother warned previously about illegal e-motorcycle use.

An Orange County mother, Tommi Jo Mejer, 50, has been charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors following a crash where her son critically injured an 81-year-old man. The victim, Ed Ashman, a Vietnam veteran and substitute teacher, was struck by a 14-year-old boy illegally operating an e-motorcycle in Lake Forest.
Prosecutors allege Mejer was previously warned by sheriff's deputies in June of the prior year about allowing her son to ride the modified e-motorcycle, which can reach speeds up to 60 mph. Despite this warning, she continued to permit its use, leading to the devastating collision.
Mejer faces charges including felony child endangerment and accessory after the fact, carrying a potential sentence of over six years. The district attorney emphasized holding parents accountable for their children's actions, especially concerning dangerous vehicles. This case marks the third parent charged in Orange County this year for similar offenses.
