- Suspect apprehended in Vermont following a reported suicide attempt.
- Contentious divorce proceedings preceded the children's tragic deaths.

A 49-year-old mother has been charged with two counts of murder following the discovery of her two young children's bodies in their Wellesley home late Friday. The suspect was arrested in Bennington, Vermont, after reportedly confessing to her aunt that she had killed the children and then attempted suicide.
The situation unfolded when the aunt, concerned by her niece's distressed state and visible neck injury, contacted the Bennington Police Department. While police were en route, the suspect revealed she had killed her children, Ella and Kai MacAusland, aged 7 and 6.
Responding officers in Wellesley found the siblings deceased in a bed, corroborating the suspect's statements. The children were students at Schofield Elementary School, where support services are being prepared for the school community.
Court records indicate the suspect and her husband were involved in a contentious divorce, including custody disputes and disagreements over their home. A guardian for the children was scheduled to be appointed just days before their deaths.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of death or a motive. The investigation is ongoing, and Norfolk County prosecutors have moved to impound the police report.
