A mother in Southern California has been arrested and charged in connection with a collision that critically injured an 81-year-old Vietnam veteran. Tommi Jo Mejer, 50, faces charges including felony child endangerment and accessory after the fact.
The incident occurred on April 16 in Lake Forest, California, when Mejer's 14-year-old son allegedly struck the veteran with an e-motorcycle. The victim, a Marine Corps captain who flew combat missions in Vietnam, sustained life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized.
Authorities stated the e-motorcycle was designed for off-highway use and was being operated illegally on public roads by an unlicensed minor. Mejer had previously been warned by law enforcement about her son's reckless use of such vehicles.
The Orange County District Attorney's Office highlighted the dangers of minors operating powerful, high-speed e-motorcycles without proper licensing or training, emphasizing the risks to public safety.
