A tragic incident unfolded in Barshi, Solapur district, where a 26-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly killing her infant daughter on Sunday. The woman is accused of strangling the 10-month-old baby and then drowning her in a water bucket.
Following the infant's death, the mother reportedly attempted to harm her six-year-old daughter. The elder child's desperate plea to be allowed to live and study reportedly made her mother abandon the attack.
The accused woman, who had allegedly planned to commit suicide after killing her daughters, brought the infant's lifeless body to the Barshi city police station herself. She has been remanded to judicial custody.
Her husband, a state transport bus driver, was on duty at the time. He mentioned his wife had been suffering from migraine and backache, and that the baby's continuous crying had frustrated her. The family originally hailed from Nanded district.
