Cortney Bartholomew, 40, is scheduled for court appearances on May 5 and May 22 regarding the alleged murder of her daughter, Rebecca Park, and the removal of her unborn grandchild. Prosecutors claim Bartholomew lured the 22-year-old, who was 38 weeks pregnant, to her home on November 3 by showing her a fabricated $18,000 check.
Rebecca Park was discovered deceased on November 25, three days after her due date. The probable cause affidavit indicates her abdomen was cut open, but the fetus was missing. Bartholomew initially denied involvement but later allegedly confessed to cutting the fetus out after being confronted with cell phone evidence placing her at the scene.
Cortney Bartholomew also implicated her husband, Bradly Bartholomew, 47, in the murder, claiming he stabbed Rebecca while holding a knife to her throat. She stated that she began cutting the baby out while Rebecca was still alive. The baby did not survive, and both were disposed of by Cortney, who reportedly told investigators the plan was revenge for a parole violation.
Conversely, Bradly Bartholomew allegedly told authorities that Cortney orchestrated the attack because she desired a child and they were unable to adopt. Investigators found evidence that Cortney had been telling others she had given birth and then lost the baby shortly after Rebecca's death. Both individuals have pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including first-degree murder and torture.
