Morrisons has incurred a substantial £750,000 fine following a health inspection that uncovered severe hygiene problems at its Cwmbran bakery in Wales.
The routine inspection in August 2024 revealed 51 critical issues, including a lack of cleanliness, dirty equipment, and insufficient staff supervision. Store managers were aware of these problems for a month prior to the inspection.
As a result, the bakery was immediately closed for a thorough deep clean. District Judge, sitting at Newport Magistrates' Court, imposed the fine, emphasizing the potential risk to customers' lives and well-being.
Morrisons expressed disappointment with the bakery's condition, describing it as falling short of expected standards. The company stated that the isolated issue was promptly addressed in collaboration with the local council and that improvements have been maintained.
