The 2022 murder of acclaimed American cyclist Moriah 'Mo' Wilson is gaining new attention with a Netflix documentary. Wilson, a 25-year-old rising star in gravel racing, was found fatally shot in Austin, Texas, on May 11, 2022. Investigators quickly identified Kaitlin Armstrong, a yoga instructor and former associate of Wilson's ex-boyfriend, as the prime suspect.
Prosecutors alleged Armstrong killed Wilson out of jealousy after tracking her movements. Following the murder, Armstrong fled the United States, initiating a 43-day international manhunt. She was eventually arrested in Costa Rica, where authorities reported she had altered her appearance through plastic surgery and used false documents to evade authorities.
Kaitlin Armstrong was tried in Texas and found guilty of first-degree murder by a jury in November 2023, receiving a 90-year prison sentence. Her appeals were rejected, with the Texas Third Court of Appeals affirming her conviction and sentence in January 2026. Separately, Wilson's parents were awarded $15 million in a wrongful death lawsuit in 2024.
As of April 2026, Armstrong is serving her sentence at the Dr Lane Murray Unit in Gatesville, Texas. She is eligible for parole after approximately 30 years, likely in the early 2050s. Efforts to overturn her conviction have thus far been unsuccessful.
