Buck Jared Schiff, a 46-year-old man, is currently facing serious felony charges in Flathead County District Court, including stalking and tampering with a witness. These charges stem from allegations that he repeatedly violated a protective order issued by Kalispell Municipal Court on March 31. This order explicitly prohibited Schiff from harassing, annoying, or contacting his victim, a former romantic partner, until March 30, 2031.
Despite the court's directive, Schiff is accused of persistently attempting to communicate with the victim. Court documents indicate he sent her messages on Facebook, enlisted relatives to harass her, and had letters delivered to her home. The victim also reported receiving calls from Schiff, who allegedly used new phone numbers each time she blocked him. This persistent behavior led her to change her phone number and alter her home locks, as Schiff had retained a key.
Further alleged violations include Schiff texting the victim on April 3, instructing her not to contact authorities and suggesting her safety would improve if she met him. He reportedly appeared at her home days later to retrieve personal items, asking for a chance to speak. Later that day, he sent a string of emails, one offering to return her belongings if she agreed to "make it all go away." Between April 12 and 13, additional emails were sent, including one proposing a meeting in a public place. A relative of Schiff's also allegedly contacted the victim on April 17, urging her to forget the incidents.
Schiff was arrested on April 19, admitting to writing "love letters" to the victim and acknowledging he violated the protective order, though he claimed no intent to frighten her. He described watching her house and leaving letters when her children were not present. Prosecutors have filed four misdemeanor counts of violating a protective order, and Schiff has a prior conviction for the same offense from May 2025. He is currently held on $50,000 bail and is scheduled for arraignment before Judge Heidi Ulbricht on May 21.
