A mother from Minnesota has been arrested and charged with child abuse following an incident aboard a Carnival Cruise ship. Paetra Grandsberry was detained after tackling a teenager she believed was part of a group that had attacked her sons on December 21. The ship was near the Bahamas at the time of the alleged assault.
While speaking with ship security about the earlier fight involving her sons, Grandsberry observed a group of youths running and identified one as her perceived assailant. She pursued and tackled the boy, who stated he was merely running with the group out of perceived fear. Grandsberry later told authorities she "accidentally" fell on the victim.
Grandsberry, 38, is currently being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami, with her bond set at $2,500. The young victim identified Grandsberry in a photo lineup and recounted the encounter to deputies. The case highlights a dramatic misunderstanding onboard the cruise.
