Nathalie Belizaire, 29, faces four felony child neglect charges after allegedly abandoning her four children, the youngest a 2-month-old infant, to embark on a three-day cruise. The children's father, alerted by a suspicious WhatsApp post, called 911 when he found the apartment empty and heard the children inside. Officers forced entry into the North Miami Beach apartment.
Upon arrival, police and fire rescue discovered the four children, including a 2-year-old, huddled together in the bathroom. The great-grandmother, whom Belizaire claimed would watch the children, stated they were never brought to her. Belizaire was apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers as she disembarked her cruise ship in Miami on Monday, September 28th.
Authorities allege Belizaire failed to provide adequate care, exposing the children to significant harm. She appeared in bond court on Tuesday, September 29th, with a $10,000 bond set and an order to stay away from her children. The children are reportedly safe in foster care. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for November 24th, though her attorney states she denies the charges.
