A father of six-month-old triplets, 57-year-old Avtar Singh, was tragically killed in what authorities are calling a horrifying case of mistaken identity. Singh was reported missing on February 17 after his wife discovered their three infants alone at their home in Tracy. Surveillance footage revealed Singh being forced into a white SUV by three abductors near the Gurdwara Gur Nanak Parkash temple.
Deputies located a body near Lake Berryessa approximately two hours from Tracy on Friday afternoon, which was later identified as Avtar Singh. San Joaquin County Sheriff Patrick Withrow stated that Singh was not the intended target and that the abductors were seeking another individual for an unknown reason. The investigation is ongoing, and Singh's death is being treated as a homicide.
Singh was a devoted member of the Sikh community and a dedicated volunteer at the temple, where he served as head cook for 23 years. His community remembers him for his humility, sincerity, and hard work. A GoFundMe page established to support his widow and their triplets has already raised over $406,000.
