The remains of Joanne Sheen, 44, a mother of three, were identified six years after she disappeared. Her remains were found in west London after a wildfire exposed them last month. Joanne had been travelling from Fareham to Southampton in December 2019 when she vanished.
Her best friend of 16 years described Joanne as an "amazing mum" who had gone "completely off-grid" in the period leading up to her disappearance. Despite an extensive police investigation involving thousands of inquiries, Joanne's fate remained unknown until her remains were discovered on August 12, 2026.
Following the discovery, a 56-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. Law enforcement officials in Hampshire and London are collaborating to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Joanne's death. A £20,000 reward is being offered for information regarding her movements in Southampton or London in 2019.
