A devastating road accident on February 5 in Mumbai has led to the fatality of Dhrumil Patel, aged 33, following nine days of intensive medical treatment. The collision occurred near Somaiya College around 11:15 pm when an SUV, reportedly driven by a 17-year-old, collided head-on with the scooter carrying Dhrumil and his wife, Meenal Patel.
The couple, returning home after closing their shop, were violently thrown from their scooter due to the impact. Dhrumil suffered severe injuries, including a critical head injury and fractured ribs, and passed away on Sunday while on a ventilator. Meenal sustained multiple fractures and injuries to her limbs and pelvic bone.
She has since undergone several surgeries and remains in a critical state. Police investigations, initiated after a complaint by the victim's uncle, revealed the SUV was allegedly driven by a minor. The vehicle's owner, Valji Raja Bhushan, has been charged for permitting his underage son, who lacked a license, to drive the vehicle.
Tilak Nagar Police have registered a case against the owner under the Motor Vehicles Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities indicate that further legal actions are pending as the investigation continues.
