In Ludhiana, police have registered a case against eight individuals, including four women, for a protracted period of systemic trafficking, forced marriage, and aggravated sexual assault against a minor victim. The victim's ordeal reportedly started in infancy due to family discord. She was allegedly sold to a family in Haryana when she was just two years old, enduring years of mistreatment.
Her exploitation intensified at age 16 when she was resold and forced into marriage with Sahil in November 2024. Relocated to Ludhiana, she faced repeated sexual assault and intimidation. The victim eventually escaped on May 22, 2025, reaching her mother in Haryana. She has since given birth to a child resulting from the assault.
The accused reportedly attempted to coerce her return, leading to criminal intimidation. The victim then approached Bhiwani police, who filed a Zero FIR and transferred the case to Ludhiana. Police have invoked charges under POCSO, child marriage prohibition, and other sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Raids are underway in Haryana and Ludhiana for the arrest of the accused.
