Man Kills Pregnant Sister, Dismembers Body

Jack Joseph Ball, 24, pleaded guilty to premeditated first-degree murder and premeditated first-degree murder of an unborn child. He admitted to killing his sister, Bethany Ann Israel, and her unborn baby in late May 2024. Israel was 17 to 18 weeks pregnant at the time of her death. Ball claimed he decided to murder his sister because she was "no longer innocent."

Authorities discovered dismembered body parts belonging to Israel at two locations after Ball and his sister had dinner on May 23, 2024. Ball was found fleeing the scene, covered in blood, with a self-inflicted neck wound. Investigators found journals attributed to Ball detailing his motive.

Ball has asserted a defense of mental illness, and a trial is scheduled for late May 2026 to litigate this defense. If the mental illness defense fails, Ball faces a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment. Israel was remembered by her family as a cherished wife, daughter, sister, and an expectant mother, deeply loved within her community.
