In a disturbing incident that occurred around two weeks ago in Nawanshahr, India, a migrant worker has been arrested for assaulting a female patient in a private hospital. The accused, identified as Raja Yadav, was working in the hospital's canteen and allegedly used criminal force with the intent to disrobe the young woman patient as she lay on a stretcher.
The incident was not immediately reported to the police, but the information eventually reached local activist Parvinder Singh Kittna, who submitted a complaint to the Nawanshahr Senior Superintendent of Police. Kittna alleged that the hospital management, instead of taking action, had allowed the accused to escape.
The victim's family was also reportedly reluctant to come forward, fearing "adverse publicity" for the family. However, the police have now registered a case under Section 76 of the Indian Penal Code for assaulting or using criminal force against a woman with the intent to disrobe her. The accused was arrested on Saturday and produced before a local court, where he was remanded to police custody for two days.
The Nawanshahr Deputy Superintendent of Police, Raj Kumar, stated that the complainant had witnessed the accused pulling a bed sheet on the patient, after which he was immediately removed from the premises. The police are now conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
