4 Dec
Summary
- A mother fought off a rape attempt, leading to her arrest for murder.
- While she was jailed, her husband sexually assaulted their two younger daughters.
- Transgenders helped rescue the girls, leading to the father's arrest.

A 35-year-old woman, a migrant worker in Nagpur, endured a horrific ordeal after killing a contractor who attempted to rape her at a construction site in mid-June. She and her 17-year-old son were jailed following the incident. While she was incarcerated, her estranged, abusive husband, whom she had fled from Delhi with her children, began sexually exploiting their two younger daughters, aged 12 and 9.
The abhorrent abuse continued for three months until the father's crime was witnessed by his eldest son. Alerted neighbors sought help from local transgenders, who intervened, overpowered the father, and handed him over to the Wathoda police. The two traumatized girls were placed in a government shelter for safety and counseling, and the father was charged under the POCSO Act.
Subsequently, the mother and her elder son were granted bail with the assistance of the District Legal Services Authority. However, the mother now battles severe stigma, unable to find work due to the "murder accused" label. The family remains fragmented, with the younger daughters in care and the elder son struggling to find employment as a minor.
