Michigan Duo Arrested in $6K Retail Fraud Spree

Rodney Yarber, 42, and Destiny Carrillo, 26, were arrested on June 23 in Mecosta County, Michigan, in connection with a widespread retail fraud investigation. Deputies apprehended the pair during a traffic stop on U.S. 131 near Big Rapids. This arrest followed an attempted retail fraud incident at a local Walmart. Authorities suspect Yarber and Carrillo were involved in multiple retail frauds at Walmart and Meijer locations in Big Rapids Township on June 20.

The investigation revealed a larger pattern of alleged criminal activity, with the suspects reportedly linked to over $6,000 in retail fraud at Meijer stores. These incidents date back to February and occurred across Kent, Mecosta, and Ottawa counties. Loss prevention teams from both Meijer and Walmart assisted the Mecosta County Sheriff's Office in their investigation.

Yarber faces charges of organized retail fraud and has posted a $35,000 bond. Carrillo was charged with first-degree retail fraud, with her bond amount not publicly disclosed. Both are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The case serves as a reminder for consumers to monitor their financial accounts and store loyalty programs for suspicious activity.
