Ovitz Quits Deposition Over Epstein Questions
23 Jun
Summary
- Michael Ovitz abruptly ended his deposition on June 1.
- He refused to answer questions about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
- Ormond's team filed for contempt and sanctions against the executive.

Michael Ovitz abruptly exited a deposition on June 1 when legal representatives for Julia Ormond began questioning him about his connection to Jeffrey Epstein. Ovitz declared he would not respond to inquiries about Epstein, stating they were out of line, before removing his microphone and leaving the proceedings. Ormond's legal team subsequently filed a motion for contempt and sanctions against the executive on June 12.
This deposition was ordered as part of Ormond's ongoing lawsuit against CAA, alleging the agency facilitated her sexual assault by Harvey Weinstein in December 1995. Ovitz had previously failed to appear for a deposition in June 2025 and did not formally respond to the court. Ormond's lawyers sought his testimony due to his potential knowledge of CAA's relationship with Weinstein and his alleged awareness of Weinstein's history of sexual misconduct.
Kevin Mintzer, one of Ormond's attorneys, argued that Ovitz's continued association with Epstein, a registered sex offender since 2008, is relevant to assessing Ovitz's judgment in handling Weinstein's alleged misconduct while at CAA. Emails between Ovitz and Epstein from the 2010s, including one expressing excitement about visiting Epstein in St. Barts, were recently made public.
