Osmel Nunez, 36, has been arrested on felony charges including organized fraud and grand theft following an investigation into his Miami-based medical-aesthetics business, Century Research and Aesthetics. Authorities allege Nunez processed more than $1.1 million through 116 customer accounts, with a significant portion, 99 accounts, linked to deceased individuals. The alleged fraud scheme began abruptly on May 14, 2026, and continued for six weeks.
Synchrony Bank, which issued CareCredit, reported transferring approximately $1,056,343 to the clinic's connected account before estimating its loss at $893,654. Nunez was interviewed by Synchrony investigators on July 22, 2026, where he stated that every account holder had received treatment at his clinic. However, he reportedly failed to provide concrete evidence to support these claims. Nunez was arrested two days later, on July 24, 2026.
The charges against Nunez are allegations, and he faces counts of organized fraud, first-degree grand theft, and aggravated fraudulent use of identifying information. Consumers who suspect fraudulent activity or identity theft related to CareCredit transactions are urged to report it immediately to Synchrony Bank. Families managing affairs for deceased individuals can also use Synchrony's online notification form, and further reporting assistance is available through IdentityTheft.gov.
