A Mexican court has imposed a sentence of 158 years and nine months on three individuals for the brutal killings of two Australian brothers and their American companion. The victims, Jake and Callum Robinson, and Jack Carter Rhoad, were on a surfing holiday in Baja California when they vanished in April 2024.
Their disappearance triggered an intensive search by Mexican authorities and the FBI. The bodies of the three friends were found on May 3, 2024, at the bottom of a water well. Each victim had sustained gunshot wounds to the head. Their vehicle was discovered burned several kilometers away.
The convicted men, identified as Jesus Gerardo "N" (known as "El Kekas"), Irineo Francisco "N", and Angel Jesus "N", were found guilty of multiple charges including homicide, aggravated robbery, and vehicle theft. The judge also mandated compensation for the victims' families.
This case has heightened concerns about tourist safety in Baja California, a region popular for surfing but also grappling with high levels of violence. Despite Ensenada's relative safety, the state's security risks have led to travel advisories for tourists.
